Ruby should have been freezing, they were deeply into autumn now, a damp chill part of everything they breathed, touched. She was against her rescuer, if that was what he could be called, as he acted the part of incubator. Built perfectly to keep her warm from his proximity alone.

She was dizzy, he was moving quicker than Ruby could keep track of. Ruby was aware of their heated movement, fast and molten, like sliding lava. Suddenly, he held her against the dampness of the seedy building she worked in.

Had worked in. There was no going back to that mess. Ruby had barely managed the surprise beatings, the slurs, but she hadn't counted on the potential attack. Ruby didn't work to die. There was no safety net in that. Nobody had her back.

They just wanted to abuse her.

It was time for her to run again.

But right now, she was held by flesh so hot it almost burned the skin where it touched and she melted beneath it, though she was nude and should have been cold, she panted from the mirage of heat.

Ruby knew she should be afraid but as she stood there, pinned against the wall, with the stranger's knee a placeholder against her slightly spread legs, she could feel her pussy lips parting to accommodate the slightly bony appendage underneath the muscle. It ground into the tender button of her pleasure and Ruby moaned as she met his eyes. They were a beautiful burning red-orange up close. Like a sunset on fire.

Ruby felt herself falling into their depths.

He cupped her face. “I have searched for one that may withstand my heat.” Those fire eyes flared and Ruby gasped in surprise, the beautiful sunset fire stoked to gold and he stroked her face with a light touch, the finger lighting a flame that seared then cooled as the trail of molten heat left a path in its wake.

“What is your name, concubine?”

What? Ruby thought in the fuzziness of her state of mind. She realized in the last pocket of lucidness that remained buried in her psyche that she should be trying to escape this stranger with flames for eyes. But the longer she was in his presence, the less she wanted to flee. It felt like she had waited her entire life to be held in this safe heat, bathed in the warmth of him in this moment.

Instead of fighting like a sane girl would have, she answered, “Ruby,” in a breathy voice.

“Perfect,” he murmured, pressing her harder into the wall until the roughness of the brick bit back into her flesh, the low threshold of pain it ignited was the perfect complement to the heat of his mouth.

“Say yes, my Ruby,” he said in a seductive command, kissing a trail of soft pecks that were instantly too hot and simultaneously perfect.

No. “Yes,” she said too softly for anyone mortal to hear.

He was not mortal. He heard everything in that one word. What Ruby said... and what she did not.

Her fear fell away under the spell of his nearness.
